Soul City To Inspire & Entertain
Soul City's Andre Carpenter chatted with me briefly about the band's origins & what the motivation which prompted the musicians to band together.
Based in the Fraser Coast, Soul City is a soul band, consisting of brass, bass guitar, drums, vocals & keyboard. They consist of a cooperative of musicians, vocalists & support crew who, whilst all maintaining full time careers, perform regular gigs throughout the Fraser Coast Region.
It is the story of being home grown but also how they came to be that I find interesting. Andre shares in the podcast Episode 76 his story. To briefly relay, he has a background as a professionally trained musician & fell into a career as a music teacher in a school setting. After some "soul" searching, both his wife & he took a leap of faith, changed post codes & careers and the fresh start in the Fraser Coast has worked out sensationally.
Both landing on their feet working in health, Andre couldn't be further from an education setting. With his new profession as a nurse falling into place, he was able to find a place in his life to include his music passion & to work towards inspiring youth to pick up an instrument.
Andre orchestrated the initiative which is Soul City, which evolved from identifying there was no band in the Fraser Coast offering the array of instruments. He made connections with like-minded, professionally trained & extremely talented musicians/vocalists to form what is now a prominent band in the Fraser Coast live music scene.

Soul City started with a passion to inspire young people to take up a brass instrument, or any instrument. It was to do something where Andre & his band are rewarded with a great deal of joy & satisfaction, doing what they love. Combine those two goals & passions, you have an amazing group of positive role models who can put on a damn good show.
