Robbie Burns Feast - 25 January 2020
Updated: Jan 27, 2020
The Fraser Coast's inaugural Robbie Burns Feasst is being held at the River Heads Community Hall this month.
Scottish Poet Robert Burns is recognised and remembered every year in his Scottish Homeland with a celebratory feast of Haggis, atmospheric audio of bagpipe playing & highland dancing.
This year, the feast is being celebrated on it's annual day of 25th January, right here in the Fraser Coast. And yes, there will be haggis, bagpipes, highland dancers (hopefully) and kilt wearing scots.
This has come about by River Heads Pharmacist/Businessman Mark McMurtrie, cultural love of everything Scottish. After having a trip last year to the Edinborough Tattoo, & a few drinks brainstorming ideas with a good friend, the obvious question was "why can't we celebrate Robbie Burns in the Fraser Coast, & by doing so, celebrate everything Scottish.
If ever there was a reason to done tartan, with your best Aussie-Scot accent, this is it. You will fit in perfectly! Mark has gone the extra sure that the catering includes vegan & vegetarian options, or for the meat lovers & strong stomachs, you can try the real haggis.
The event is being run with community spirit and while tickets cost $55.00, any profits made from the event, will all be donated to the Hervey Bay RSL Pipe Band.
In podcast Episode 67, I had a good laugh with Mark about his event, but he also shared a
bit of background to his business, River Heads Pharmacy. He has created what I would call a boutique pharmacy. It is a mix of your regular pharmacy supplies & script filling dutes, but adds a country flavour by providing a retail space to promote local artists & creative folk. It isn't often I would say, when you go to have lunch at River Heads, pop into the pharmacy for a look, but in this case I would.
So when you do visit Mark, make sure you put on your best Scottish accent & be sure to ask him what is under his kilt!
