A Boutique Addiction

Family enjoying togetherness
Meet Elaine (not pictured). She could be your neighbour, friend, sister, mother. She could be you. Addiction does not discriminate. From darkness positivity shines. Transformations are happening. One organisation in the Fraser Coast helping individuals overcome addiction & rebuilding their lives is Bayside Transformations - you can help by spending a couple of dollars in the op shop in Bideford Street.

Even before having vision impairment, I would judge an Op Shop by the smell in the first instance. I know I am not the only one who does this. So trust me when I say that this little boutique of an op shop in Bideford Street smells fresh & clean, you can have no fear of travelling there to be disappointed.

Another feature of the Bayside Transformations Op Shop I really love is the one price for everything, unless tagged otherwise. Most things are at the flat rate, at the moment $4, so for about $40, you can buy a week's worth of clothes which is exactly what my friend did when she visited from overseas....then she donated them back. Oh, so nice to travel with only hand luggage. (Contacts details are all listed at bottom.)

Feeling isolated.
For help call Bayside Transformations Residency on Ph: 07 4194 6621 or Lifeline 13 11 14.

But there is a serious purpose behind this little op shop, and it is so much more than another op shop. The op shop provides life skills, communication, trust & employment skills experiences & training for participants in the program. The program is a 12 month commitment by a participant to break a cycle of addiction & start the path of rebuilding and reconnecting their life & their loved ones lives.

Whether you are of the Bayside Church Faith, or just community minded, it doesn't really matter. Whichever way you look at what this not for profit business is doing, it is a valuable service & support for families & people living with addiction. That is why your donations & purchases are so gratefully appreciated.

When recording this podcast in the little op shop, I was very thankful for Elaine chatting with me. Elaine, looked & sounded like any other person you would see in the shops, school pick up zone. Elaine could be you. Elaine could be me. Elaine certainly is brave, she has lived through addiction & continues to work through rebuilding her life. Elaine, thank you again for opening your heart & sharing a piece of your story.
