18th July Howard Festival Not to be Missed
Burrum Coal Discovery Festival 18th July 2020 - put this on your calendar of must not miss events in the Fraser Coast Region. Whether you a local to the region or travelling the east coast of Queensland, Howard sits on the Bruce Highway just 30 minutes north of Maryborough, or 30 minutes south of Childers.
The festival celebrates the origins of Burrum Town & Howard, with the discovery of high quality coking coal over 150 years ago in the area. The festival, also known as Coal Fest, focuses on the heritage of the area (timber loggin, citrus farming, coal). On the day there will be a parade, led by the Maryborough Pipe Band leading the way, followed by local schools, floats from community organisations.......and hopefully with a bit of luck Jussy & Tammy on our trusty steeds promoting our 100Ks To Utopia!
The Show & Shine, antique cars, caravans, motorbikes, trucks, all on display. Heritage costume competition for anyone who has some clothes from yesteryear, for a lot of fun & to truly get into the heritage spirit. You can also get in touch with Pamela Evans (Pieces by Pamela) who is offering a presentation on how to put together a historic costume from bits and pieces in your wardrobe.
Fun activities such as coal bucket relays, coal sack races, horse & carriage rides, live demonstrations, live music & busking, art show. So much happening at Howard on the day.
Horse pony rides by Hucknall Horses will be available on the day.
Brooklyn House , a historic home will be open to the public and well worth a walk through to step back to an era before the original wireless was invented.
